Bauer media is a European-based media company, headquarters in Hamburg Germany founded in 1875, that manages a portfolio of more than 600 magazines, over 400 digital products and 100 radio and TV station around the world. the portfolio includes print shops, postal, distributing and marketing services.

Masthead - The main title of the magazine, it is always on the front cover.

Main image - Is the image in the centre of the front page.

Headline - The headline is a heading at the top of an article or page in a newspaper or magazine.

Bar code -  A machine readable code in the form of numbers and a patterns. 

Buzz word - A word usually placed on the front on a magazine in order to create audience hype - example include 'exclusive' 'sneak peak' and 'new.'

Typography - The style and appearance of text.

Byline - A line in a magazine or newspaper naming the writer of an article.

Cover lines - Small story lines or captions lines that accompany the cover shot. 

Direct mode of address - Demonstrates the main pictures facial expression.

Date line - The date the magazine was published.

The 4 C's stands for Cross Cultural Consumer Characterisation. These 4 C's are divides people into 7 groups depending on their 'motivation'.


  • The Aspirer -  These types of individuals are materialistic and focus on other peoples perspectives and opinions on them rather than their own values. they respond to others views on appearance, personality, fashion etc. More so, they place the importance of appearance over personality. 


Core motivation: status


  • The Succeeder -  these types of people have self confidence and focus on the importance of organisation. they have a strong goal orientation as they want to be successful and often have an aggressive attitude towards life. 


Core motivation: control 


  • The Explorer - these types of people look for a challenge and discovery, they always want to be the people to try out new experiences and ideas. they look to be different from other people.

  • The Reformer - These types of people value their own judgement; they do what they want to do. they are the most anti-materialistic group and is considered ad intellect and more so have a lot of tolerance.

  • The Mainstream - these types of people have a daily routine which is essential for them. They are the mainstream of society and are the largest of the 7 groups. they tend to copy the other people and like what they like.


Core motivation: security 


  • The Struggler  - these types of people 'live for the day' and other groups often see them as victims and losers. they rely on luck rather than judgement to get anywhere with their lives. they are often heavy consumers of alcohol and junk food. 
Core motivation: escape 

  • The Resigned - these types of people are predominantly older people with unchanging values and enjoy traditional roles and lives. They prefer to known rather than the new 
Core motivation: survive 


Audience profiling:


Audience profiling is a task all media institutions need to perform when creating a new product to launch onto the market be it a magazine, film, album, website etc
When defining an audience, factors that must be considered include:

  • occupation

  • disposable income 
  • current lifestyle/desired lifestyle 
  • culture
My magazine caters for the female population, more specifically to teenagers and young adults. More so my magazine is aimed to one of the 7 groups (The Aspirer) which focuses on personality, appearance and fashion etc. This interlinks with my magazine as i aspire to produce a product which overlooks fashion, beauty and lifestyle.

Psychographics - 

A young confident adult who desires fashion and makeup, who is currently abroad studying fashion and textiles. is inspired by celebrity lifestyle and adores them. 
Her hobbies consist of her perfecting her makeup skills and trying out various different clothing brands such as Prada, Burberry, whereby she is inspired by these and many more. She desires and hopes to one achieve her goal in becoming a clothing designer.
She is a constant consumer and enjoys buying brands that reflects her inner girly and feminine personality.
She is creative and artistic, and has a strong moral values.

dislikes - sports, anti-social behaviour, smoking, drinking










This is my first draft called 'Rouge' which was inspired by 'Fashion magazine' due to the use of different fonts and use of neutral colours.













  This is my first draft for my contents page which is clean cut and simple with the small details of neutral colours. 









This is my second draft for which was inspired by 'Vogue' magazine. 








I later adapted my second draft as I was later fully inspired by 'Vogue' magazine and created my second to last piece due to this matter. The magazine is heavily reliant on coordinated colour scheme and use of various fonts to attract and appeal to consumers.
